ABOUT OUR EXHIBITS

The Temora Aviation Museum sits on the historic site of the largest and longest-running RAAF Elementary Flying Training School from World War II. Established in May 1941, No. 10 EFTS trained pilots until May 1945. During that time, 2,527 pilots mastered the Tiger Moth at Temora, with another 111 receiving partial training.

Our entrance building is steeped in history; it’s the original 10 EFTS Guardhouse, which we relocated from the airport’s main gate. We've lovingly refurbished it, preserving its original charm. The walls are still covered in the original corrugated iron, the windows are the same ones fitted in 1941, and the floor remains as it was back then. We've replaced the asbestos roof and stripped away 60 years of internal modifications. This building is now the Guardhouse Café.

We’ve also built a second structure in the style of the old barracks where the trainees and instructors once lived. This new building features our Entrance, Retail Shop and Simulator Room.

ANNA CHRISTINE GEBELS

The Museum would like to recognise the curator of the new exhibition, Anna Gebels (née Williams).

Anna Gebels, PhD Candidate Museum and Heritage Studies, University of Sydney

Anna Gebels is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney, focusing her research on the collected heritage of the Empire Air Training Scheme in Australia. Her work aims to determine what artifacts we have and what we need to tell a comprehensive and inclusive account of the Scheme.

During the day, Anna is a museum curator and educator with experience in quarantine, military aviation, and medical museums. By night, she enjoys singing for and with military veterans, transporting them back to the WWII era with the sweet harmonies of her group, Company B.
